It’s because it also had an empty lot next to it. One of the only empty lots left in the most popular neighborhood in town. The house actually ended up selling for $225k and the empty lot next to it was just put on the market for $180k. It’ll be a great opportunity for anyone wanting to build their own house in one of the best areas in Columbus.
I would have to agree I don’t much like the ladder and the price seems really high. I live in Clackamas, Oregon and for that price I could get a much bigger home that would be much bigger or with more amenities, although with me it is all about tiny home living or that’s what I am hoping to do in the future. I was really surprised at the price I though that it was much more expensive for homes here in the northwest but it is a beautiful home and the lot is pretty amazing.
Arleen F Smith, hi, I also want to build a small home and I know just what I want. If you come across any property that can be subdivided at a good price and want a neighbor, I am in. I want to find something soon and get it done. you take care, Payton
Shanty chic don’t come cheap? Pure Honey is a sweetie! Some minor changes and I’d have this humble hottie worth its’ price. The incongruous kitchen cabinetry and exposed rough ceiling (or lack of) is oppressive and appears to be a demolition in progress, even though the fireplace comes off as “funky” and works. Unfortunately the “lot” screams “Handyman Special” to me.Since somewhat rather small, I would redo it to a more private Brownstone backyard feel.
I really like this house. I live in Phoenix and for 197k you could buy a 6 bedroom home. A horrible asking price. I would want steps not a ladder. As one ages, a ladder would not be appropriate. I like the rustic kitchen ceiling though. Though yard, deck and siding need some TLC.
The house is very nice inside, I agree the outside needs fixing up. I also agree, about the ladder too for an older person wouldn’t work. Very cute, but price is something else. Would like to see more like that.
It’s adorable. So comfortable, and such a big serviceable kitchen for a small home. I really like the ladder. An enormous vine wreath would look nice on the back of the house.
I live in Columbus and thought this was a bit expensive too, but I believe it’s in a historic area where you couldn’t touch a more moderately sized house for less than $350000. I have a house more like 1700 sq. feet in a suburb and right now, I’d be lucky to get $160000 for it.
I like the layout. As for the stairs to the loft, I would extend the flooring just a tad out over the door so that a twisted staircase could be used – you aren’t really using that corner space anyway… that way the door swings open at any time and you have a ‘normal’ staircase to use.
Love this house, but I would make several changes. I would put a door between the kitchen and the “bedroom” and another door between the “bedroom” and the laundry/bath area. I would also put in a real staircase, not the ladder. Too dangerous after a certain age! Other than that this house is “Pure Honey”.
I’m lovin’ the tiny house look, inside and out … however, the asking price is absolutely RIDICULOUS! No matter how many ‘upgrades’ the inside of this house had, it’s nowhere near that price. Someone is taking ridiculous advantage of tiny home wanna-be buyers.
This is almost exactly like what I have in mind, except a lot less in cost, off-grid capabilities and on no less than an acre of ground so I can have my garden/greenhouse and backyard chickens 🙂
I hate it when people rape old houses like this. I own a similar 650 Sq ft house in Cincinnati. It has been suggested that I do something similar to it. NEVER. I can’t control what might happen to it after I’m gone…but not on my watch!!!
I love the interior! (Well, all but the kitchen ceiling). What I don’t care for is the outside. Give it a wood shingle siding and a new roof! And I see it’s already off the market.
Where In Columbus Is This At??? I Live In Columbus…Would Love To See It In Person, And Talk To The Owners About Their Remodel Job!!!! This Place Is Simply AMAZING!!!!!!! 🙂
I love most of the house, but would take out the living room closet and move the heater vent to put in a staircase with storage cupboards and drawers. Plus, I’d redo the arched entry to the laundry room for a more conventional door.
I used to live right around the corner from this house. It sold 10 years ago for about $169 K and I don’t know if it had been rehabbed at that time. The outside was awful. I don’t think the yard looks nice at all. The grass is scrubby and if they had any sense they’d have put a screened porch out back instead of the tacky deck.
the door under the ladder……closet? I assume the bathroom is off the laundry. a floor plan drawing would be awesome in understanding the full layout. Great looking place IMO!!!!!!
Darling wee house that is nearly perfect. I couldn’t handle no window above the kitchen sink! A lot of time is spent in the kitchen and this is a must for most women.
A beautiful house. I would have done a couple of things different but still I would love this house to live in. Lots of creature comforts and just the right size to sit back and relax in. Good job!
I am wondering if the seller/owner would share the general dimensions of this adorable house. We have a small house in Rehoboth DE that needs rehabbing. Wondering if this concept could work with our house…
Thanks so much.

This is a fantastic small home very similar to what my husband and I plan to build for our forever home. I really like the layout that is more shotgun in style, but we are thinking of building ours to be more studio like (excepting a closed in bathroom and using things like crates or bookcases to separate areas such as the bedroom. I like the positioning of the loft very much. Great job!
Crazy thing is, I went and did a google search for this house. According to Zillow, this house actually sold for $225,000 in February of this year (2016).
Power wash, and paint it a different color. Never did like that particular shade of yellow, so would go with something different.
Interior, though; yeah, that I do like, a lot.
Wouldn’t bother with the loft since there’s only me, extremely rarely visitors.

I love it! Also, I wish I could log on and comment using Facebook.
I love everything you have done. Just enough space for everyday living and a sleep over.
This little cottage is perfect!!!
It’s gorgeous. I would have a door from the bedroom to the utility room though.
I like it a lot – except for the ladder going to the 2nd bedroom.
The house looks nice. But $197,500 for 750 sq ft at $304.78 per sq ft in Columbus, Ohio seems a little much.
Hell yeah!
Ridiculous pricing.

There is a door between the kitchen and bedroom. You can see the hinges in the photo.

I love the Renovated / Rustic style. I’ll take it just as it is!

This is perfect. I hope so some day build a home like this once our nest is empty.
Where can I find plans to build the PURE HONEY home?
Thanks Margaret

Interested in having one custom built for my husband and I on a plot of land

What is the point of small house living if it cost as much as a large house? Doesn’t the price defeat the purpose?
You can get a mini mansion in Houston for $200,000.
Wonderful house!!!

All it needs, for me, is some powerwashing on the exterior, ad you’re good to go!
