Hi! This is our 700 sq feet 1 bedroom home we built out of a portable metal storage building. We built this ourselves on weekends and late at night, and have been very happy with how it turned it. Very economical, and perfect for us. Please let me know if you would like more information.

Owned, built and shared by Presley Whitley.

Hi, I’m wondering where your house is located. I live in cold cold Canada and am moving to Australia this year. What climate does this work well in?

LOVE it! You guys did a wonderful job. Curious to see how the bath and any closet storage area fit in there. Where did you purchase the building? Did you do all the plumbing & electric yourself? Amazing home! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi! Thank you, we love it too. My husband actually ordered it from a manufacturer that sells portable storage sheds, and we customized the size to 16×46. When we first got it, it was just subfloor, metal and the studs, so basically we just built our house inside the shell. Depending on the manufacturer and who you buy from, it can be a couple thousand for the shed itself.

Love this!! Curious… Is it insulated at all?
We are in zone. 9….hot and humid. Was wondering how comfortable the temps are in it. Also…bathroom…utility??
    Thank you!

Are the roof and walls insulated? What type of heater are you using for the hot air system? I like this!

  • Reply Marilyn Plisco February 12, 2015 at 5:54 am

My husband and I have talked about this, and I’d like to ask a few questions if I may. First of all I noticed that your ceiling is metal, is it insulated? I mean how well does your building keep out heat or cold? What is the tubing on the ceiling, is this the ac and or heating conduit? What are the dementions of your building? Does it come with windows? What about wiring and plumbing, do I need to get a contractor for this? One more thing, the walls and insulation, we’re both retired and I am handicapped, we cannot do the work ourselves, so having to do or hire someone I want to compare to having to build a small house. You can send me an e-mail anytime, I will pretty much be here all the time.

I “love” your place and how you decorated it. Where did you get the building? Anything you can tell me about it would be great. The blue/ green wood wall did you use paint or find wood like that. How high are ceilings? Where are u located? Is it hard to heat or is in insulated.

I don’t care for this. It’s way too cluttered and it pushes the limits on “shabby chic” so that, to me, it just comes off as shabby. That’s not to say it wouldn’t appeal to others.

  • Reply Colleen February 17, 2015 at 6:26 pm

Fantastic job, love the dรฉcor-so inviting & comfortable. Would love to have more details on the project, how you did it, how long it took, any obstacles with permits, etc.?

  • Reply Van Reed February 17, 2015 at 7:31 pm

How did you insulate the building?

  • Reply Lisa Piper February 17, 2015 at 7:36 pm

Would really love more info staying with where you got the metal building. Live that it’s wider than a storage container.

excellent job, congrats on your personal project. good mix inside. I like lockers but the red one’s seem to be out of place for my liking. I had school hall lockers in my last home.

OH, wow! I could move right in and feel right at home. This is a wonderfully eclectic home and I think you two did an amazing job of making it your own. I’d love more information, too….photos of the living room area, square footage, cost of the metal building and total cost (w/out furniture, though I love it!) That antique dresser with mirror in the bedroom is simply gorgeous! I hope you will both enjoy it for many years to come.

or if you have a brochure that explains how things were built!

This is just what I was contemplating. In general from foundation installation to the cost of building and delivery costs, how much are we talking here? I’ve been looking at Amish Made Cabins and I haven’t found a local dealer. I’m in southern Louisiana and I am concerned about cooling costs in the summer. What builing model is it?d

On site and then put on metal siding. The building itself would cost around 14,000 can you tell me where you got yours and how much it was for just the building.
    Thanks Marilyn NC

I love it. I was thinking of getting a metal building and insulating it. Where could you get a building as large as that for only a couple thousand. Please send me more info on how you started maybe a video if you made one with stats, prices and the location you bought the building from. I am in my sixties and want to have a small place of my own. Thanks.

Hi Presley! Whether or not everyone would design / ‘decorate’ the interior the same way it’s quite obvious and unanimous that WE WOULD ALL like to know anything more you or your husband could share about it, and the more specific or detailed the better, as we might be able to possibly enjoy the same type of ‘ labor of love ‘ and personal beauty that could best express what you have depicted here in a HOME. You’ve inspired US and from Jan Riddle and her family to now my plea here 43 comments later… please help? Without posting my email here for all of the internet, I wouldn’t otherwise know how I could contact you to ask. Perhaps Steven of Small House Swoon could be of assistance in this matter? Hope to hear back, as I’m sure many of us would be and want to Thank You for in a sense opening this door and the wonder-filled glimpse of possibility! Stay Well and Best Wishes!
